Arsénio Mabote graduated from Ploiesti Petroleum Institute in Romania, in1983 and he holds Msc in Petroleum Engineering.
Since joining the National Oil Company (ENH) in 1983, he has been assigned for different managerial positions and participated in appraisal and development of the Pande and Temane gas field. In 1999 he was appointed National Director for Coal and Hydrocarbons. In his position he led the negotiation team for the concession and cross border agreements of the Natural Gas Project, between Mozambique and South Africa. In 2004 he was leader of the evaluation commission which successfully organised the selection of concessionaire for the Moatize Coal project.
Currently, Mr Mabote is the Chairman of the National Petroleum Institute, created by the Government in 2004; his main responsibilities include the promotion, administration and regulation of petroleum operation in Mozambique.
Over the last nine years, has led negotiations of several explorations and production concession contracts with international oil companies.
