Emma Wade-Smith took up her Posting to Johannesburg, South Africa as Regional Trade Director, Southern Africa, DIT in February 2016 and one year later her role has expanded to Regional Trade Commissioner for Africa, DIT.
Prior to that Emma spent three years in Washington as the Counsellor for Foreign and Security Policy and before spent a year on secondment to BIS, working on international Trade. This came on the back of two years heading up the FCO’s crisis response team (now known as CMD). Emma was Private Secretary to the Middle East Minister (Kim Howells and Baroness Symons in her time). She has been posted to Mexico and Chile and has had short attachments to the UN in New York (for UNGA) and the European Commission (as an HMG sponsored stagiaire). Emma speaks rusty but reasonably fluent Spanish.
