Hon. John Munyes, EGH is the Cabinet Secretary for Petroleum and Mining, Republic of Kenya appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to head the newly merged Ministry of Petroleum and Mining. Before his appointment as Cabinet Secretary, Hon. John Munyes served as the Senator for oil-rich Turkana County for 5 years from 2013 to 2017.
He has served the country in various capacities as an Assistant Minister, Ministry of water & irrigation (2003), Minister of State for Special Programmes in the Office of the President (2005), Minister for Water and Irrigation, and Minister of Labour. He also served as the Member of Parliament for Turkana North Constituency for 15 years from 1997 to 2013.
Prior to joining politics, Hon. John Munyes worked for several organizations such as OXFAM Great Britain (UK) and UNESCO as a humanitarian officer in various capacities and communities within Kenya and in the East African Region. He worked with UNESCO as Project Assistant and later became a Programme Coordinator of the Intermediate Technology Development Group (ITDG) where he coordinated food security programmes in Turkana District including livestock projects, women empowerment and capacity building.

John Munyes is a visionary and passionate leader who has championed peaceful coexistence between pastoral communities, Promoting environmental protection and waste management at the community and national level, Rural Development and conflict resolution, Sustainable Development and Governance of natural resources, Sustainable Livelihood and trade, Rights Issues, Pastoral Development, Economies of Pastoralism, Good Governance and National Development.
He is awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya(EGH) for his valuable service rendered to the nation.
